Block of the Month – How are you doing?

How is everyone doing with the Block of the Month this month?
Full confession… I haven’t started mine yet with my Challenge Wheel fabric. I’m out of town for a few more days, so my sewing machine is getting a little break. But with this month’s design and that beautiful blue fabric from the Challenge Wheel, I can’t wait to get home and see how it all comes together!
Something I Need to Pay Attention to
One thing I learned while making the sample block: check your fabric values in grayscale. I didn’t do that the first time, and I ended up choosing two fabrics that both leaned toward the dark side. The block still works, but the contrast isn’t quite what I intended. Live and learn!
Helpful Tips Anytime but Especially for the Block of the Month
• Pressing matters: Press carefully to keep your block nice and flat. I’m usually a press your seam toward the darker fabric kind of gal, but there are times when pressing seams open really helps — especially if several seams are meeting in the same spot.
• Use grayscale to check value: Take a quick photo of your fabric pull and switch it to grayscale on your phone. It really helps you see light vs. dark contrast.
• Trim your units accurately: Especially for the half-square triangles — accurate trimming makes the final block come together much more smoothly.
