Scrap Quilt – February

February’s Scrap Quilt – Flying Geese

This quilt design has been rattling around in my head for a while. This past weekend, I finally pulled out my pen and paper and started playing with the design. I thought I had the design all set until I put it into the software. NOPE, so back to the drawing board. Flying Geese, at first glance, isn’t very exciting, not until you play with the layout and placement. Movement! This scrap quilt needed movement.

Scrap Quilt Fabrics

For the Flying Geese Scrap Quilt, the geese are the scrappy part. Background fabrics in my scrap basket are few. But everything is pulled from my stash. I almost ordered fabric for the border because I had a different picture in my head. I didn’t have enough fabric to create the original plan.

After looking through the stash again and trying not to focus on the original idea, I found enough fabric to use. Part of the issue is there is a specific room that this quilt is for and I am limited to fabric colors for the border. The scrappy colors will enhance the look.

Flying Geese Pieces

I finished cutting out all the pieces and parts of the quilt. Designing, picking fabrics, and cutting out the pieces is my favorite part of the process. For the sewing part, I have to be in the right mood. A good movie or audiobook playing in the background helps tremendously. My brain needs something else to focus on; otherwise, I am thinking about all that I should be doing.

This quilt will be approximately 79″x 90″, although you could make adjustments to the pattern. I am amazed that all the pieces fit into my storage box with the rough draft of the pattern and extra border fabric for the binding.

I will be working on the pattern in the evenings and hope to have it ready for the beginning of February. Although, there are no guarantees. There will be another post showing the steps and my results in addition to the link to the pattern on the Scrap Quilt Patterns page.

Winter is the time when I can enjoy the creative chaos of my sewing room. Hopefully, you are also finding time to be creative. Busy schedules often hamper that.

Until next time.
