Free Quilt Block Pattern with Directions for Two Quilt Sizes
I was going to go scrappy with this free quilt block pattern, but I LOVED the effect when using yardage. When I find time, I will be making this quilt. I already have my fabrics picked out and bundled with the pattern. This quilt block (Lucky Clover Variation) would be a great addition to a Block of the Month sampler. Check out the other Free Quilt Block Patterns,
This pattern is called Argyle. When created with the same four fabrics, it creates an argyle pattern (see the graphic below). Are you still leaning toward Scrappy? Then, choose four colors. Within each color family, keep the range of values small. I think a scrappy version would be beautiful, but I do not have enough scraps to do it effectively.
Lucky Clover Variation
I love to take more difficult blocks and simplify them for the average quilter. This block originally had some odd shapes to work with. By simplifying the units, the directions can be used by all quilting levels. If you aren’t sure how to do this, draw the block on graph paper. Then, break it down into smaller units you are comfortable with.
It is important to realize, that the overall pattern may not stand out as much in a smaller quilt; just something to think about before deciding on the size you want to complete.
While I provided directions for two sizes, there are no boundaries with this block. You can decide how many blocks you want. You will need to make adjustments to sashings, cornerstones, and borders.
What Block would you like to see?
Do you have a favorite quilt block but are intimidated by the way it is put together? Send me the quilt block name or picture of the block, and I will see what I can do to simplify it. This lets me know what you are interested in seeing on the blog; who knows, maybe I will find a new favorite quilt block.
The Lucky Clover Variation is listed below for download.
