Greek Squares – Scrap Quilt Pattern for January 2024

For January, I am sharing the Greek Squares Block for the scrappy quilt pattern. At first, I shied away from this pattern because of all the Half Square Triangles (HSTs) needed to make a quilt. In my directions, you will create oversized HSTs that must be trimmed to size for the quilt. I find I get the best results this way. Check out this website to make more at once. The Missouri Star Blog shares three different ways to create HSTs. Choose your favorite!

This pattern has so many options. You can make the block using just two colors, although I tend to go completely scrappy with the colors and keep the background all one color. It can easily be customized for a person or theme. Use specific colors for a baby’s room, and it will fit into the decor. Go with a dark background, and your scrappy colors will pop! Let’s not forget about reproduction fabrics. See what I mean about options?

Because it is a scrap quilt pattern, I don’t want you to get bogged down by a traditional pattern. The best thing that can happen is for it to spark your creativity. Use the basic pattern and add your own personality to it!

Scrappy Quilt Patterns

I will continue to add more scrappy quilt patterns to the page. They are my favorite type of quilt pattern. It reminds me of the quilt my grandmother made me. If time allows, I will work on a couple of patterns that look more complicated. You will see that they are pretty easy once they are broken down into smaller steps.
