Mystery Quilt 2025 Step 13

Step 13 of the 2025 Mystery Quilt

Mystery Quilt Quilting with Tamara

We’ve reached the second-to-last installment of the 2025 Mystery Quilt, and what an exciting journey it’s been so far! By now, I’m sure more than a few of you clever quilters have started piecing together the big picture—or at least have some strong suspicions. The finish line is in sight, and I, for one, can hardly wait to see how all your beautiful quilts come together. In this step, we’ll be focusing on the pieced border—an important final touch that frames the entire design and ties everything together. Let’s dive in and add this final flourish before the big reveal!

Gather Your Pieces

Remember those units we set aside all the way back in Step 4 and Step 5? It’s finally time to bring them out and put them to good use! In this step, we’ll begin by piecing those units together into longer blocks that will become your pieced border.

As you assemble these sections, pay close attention to the placement of your Dark Fabrics. It’s important that they align consistently across the blocks—this alignment creates a strong visual frame that enhances the overall structure and impact of the quilt. A little precision here goes a long way in giving your quilt a polished, cohesive finish.

Take your time, enjoy the process, and let’s keep building toward the big reveal!

Final Blocks for the Mystery Quilt

And here they are! I’m stopping at the block stage for now—I’m currently on vacation and sneaking in a little quilty work while my hubby hopped into the shower. I thought I’d have plenty of time to wrap everything up before we left, but something unexpected always tends to throw a monkey wrench into even the best-laid plans.

Tip for the Final Blocks

Take your time and sew carefully when attaching the Square-in-a-Square (SIAS) unit to the 3-Rail section—you’ve worked hard to get those points sharp, and this is where precision really pays off. You don’t want to lose any of those crisp points in the seam!

To help make things a bit easier, I recommend stitching with the SIAS unit on top. That way, you’ll be able to see the little “X” formed by the seam lines, which marks exactly where the point of the square is. Aim to sew just to the side of that “X”—not through it—so the tip of the square stays nice and clean once the block is pressed.

A little attention here will go a long way toward keeping your blocks looking neat and professional!

That is it for this installment. I can’t wait to see your progress and finished sashings—each version is like a unique surprise. Keep sharing your photos and updates; they truly make this quilting journey even more special. If you think you have figured out the Mystery Quilt layout, send me a picture!
