Step 5 Installment – Mystery Quilt 2025
Hello Quilters! Here is Mystery Quilt, step 5, another quick and easy step. (The bonus is that you get this installment ahead of time due to other commitments. Hopefully ,I will be back on schedule once I get back.) You will work with rectangles and a square to create 2 or 3 “rail” units. We are getting closer to the point of putting the different blocks together.
Right now, we are just creating those smaller units that make up the blocks. I enjoy breaking the big blocks down for a mystery quilt, attempting to keep you guessing for as long as possible.
Are You Ready?
These simple blocks help to provide movement through the quilt. They also helped me create a secondary pattern when the quilt was together. I love taking a common block and tweaking it a bit to create patterns.
Enjoy this step, and I cannot wait to see the color combinations. Everything will make more sense when the mystery quilt comes together.
Mystery Quilt Step 5 Units
There are three different units in this step. Here is what you will be creating. For the 2-rail block, you only need four units. This is a great time to look at your leftover pieces. For the 3-rail bock, you will need more, but again, look at your leftover strips from past steps!
For the 2-rails to the right, it is important to remember that pressing can skew them. I finger press first and then use a pressing mat with lines to keep things straight. And that is it for this step!
