Step Six of the Mystery Quilt is here! Now that I’m back in town, we can get back on track to stay on schedule. It was a nice break to escape the snow and cold for a while and enjoy the sun and warmth of the Caribbean.

Mystery Quilt 25-Piece Block

This step can be approached in various ways, so feel free to get creative with your block. The foundation of this step starts with strips, and I opted to subcut my strips into squares. However, if you prefer, you can sew the strips together first and then subcut the squares. My directions will focus on the individual squares.

Subcutting the Squares

As mentioned earlier, I chose to subcut my strips into squares. This also allowed me to use up some of the leftover fabric pieces from previous steps, which helped me end up with a larger piece of fabric by the end of the Mystery Quilt.

Once all my squares were cut, I laid them out according to the pattern. This block has a distinctive design running through the center, so to ensure I didn’t make any mistakes, I chain-sewed the squares, creating a “web” that connected the rows and columns.ng a “web” with the rows and columns.

Mystery Quilt Step 6 Hint

This block has quite a few seams, so be extra careful when pressing them to avoid distorting the block. Precision is key here! Pressing on a mat with lines may also help to keep things square.

How are things looking for you? How do your colors look together?
