Step Two – Mystery Quilt 2025
Time for step 2 of the Mystery Quilt. This step has a few different units, but they are easy to make. I look forward to seeing your fabric choices as you work through this step. As you can see below, you will be working with two different squares. Pay close attention to the labels in the directions.
Creating A Little Bit of This and That
In this step, you will create five different units, but they build on each other, if that makes sense. It should be a quick step to complete.
I chain-sewed all of them. It was nice to see them pile up behind my machine! Although sometimes the chain would tangle up. 🙂 I’m betting there are quilters out there that know just what I am talking about.
Options for Creating Units
There are various ways to create these units – whether you call them 1/2SIAS (1/2 Square in a Square) or Chunky Flying Geese. Be open to trying different methods, but also know that you don’t have to follow the directions exactly. The critical part is the results – they need to measure the correct size.
In the directions, I use the method I have used for years with my beginning quilters. When they press the smaller unit to the corner, they can see immediately if something is off.
Quarter Inch Overlap Reminder
There needs to be a 1/4″ overlap to keep from cutting off points. Here is a close-up of one of my units.
Time to let you get your sewing done! Below are my five different units (before trimming was done). I can’t wait to see yours!
