Step 7 Mystery Quilt 2023

Mystery Quilt 2023Great Scrap Quilt Pattern

Finally, you will see what Block #1 looks like in the Mystery Quilt 2023. This isn’t a new-fangled block but a great one for using the leftover fabrics. It is perfect as a scrap quilt pattern.

You have completed most of the work for this block already. It should make it go quickly for you. I did lay out the components to plan for the fabrics ahead of time.

Because the center of the block has 16 different fabrics, I chose to lay out each block ahead of time. There were similar colors, but I separated them across the block’s width.

Thankfully, I created a couple of extra geese strips. With the extras, I could keep the same fabrics from matching up. I added those extra pieces to my block box. A box that holds all the random orphan blocksdon’ton’t have enough to create an actual scrap quilt yet, but maybe by the end of the year.

During this whole process, I had the help of our youngest pup. We have never had a pup that wants to curl up on my sewing table to watch and eventually fall asleep. If his little bed is there, he goes and lies down. It is probably a good thing he is little.

It didn’t take too long to finish up this week’s step. I am getting excited to see the finished product. Is anyone else noticing the phenomenon of the scrap bin not decreasing even though you are using scraps from it? I think they are multiplying while I sleep. It looks like I could make a couple dozen quilts from this pattern.

Share your results when you have time. If someone does this mystery using a dark background, I would love to see the results. If you wanted a very neutral, monochromatic version, I could picture it with the background a tan or taupe color with the scrappy fabrics all I’ll-on-tone whites or ivory.

Hmmm….. something to consider for the next one.
