Starting in January
Who would like to join me in a game to complete some of your UFOs (UFO Buster)? Take a good hard look at your projects. Like me, you may have projects in various stages of completion. This past month, as I organized my sewing/craft room to make space for my quilting machine, I made a list of my projects. Man, oh, man, what was I thinking??? Because there are so many quilt patterns that catch my attention, guaranteeing that I have plenty of UFOs.
Creating a UFO Buster List
I was able to mark some things off my list from the spring, but I also added to it with the Block of the Month. (See this page for my list with changes) If I want to have room for myself in my room, I need to complete some projects. As a result, I am organizing the game to start in January. You are welcome to join me!
I am creating a list of 12 projects I want to complete in 2023 (Where did 2022 go?!?!). I will assign a number from 1 to 12 to each project. It doesn’t matter what order because I will randomly draw a monthly number. This will tell me what project I need to focus on – as well as you if you join in the game.
Sharing your Progress
Please share what you are working on – although this could get us in more trouble by adding more projects to the list as we see the inspiration. You can post to the Facebook group or leave a comment at the end of this post. I will warn you that I will see the Facebook posts first.

Below are a few projects I plan on completing in 2023.
Deciding Which UFOs to Bust
Some of these projects are quick and easy ones because they will keep me motivated and focused. Other projects will focus on finishing the quilt top but not focus on the machine quilting at this point. I also added machine quilting projects and then an open-ended month for bindings.
The Goal of the UFO Buster Game
I know how overwhelmed I get when I look at all the projects I want/need to finish. I know the first time I did this game, it helped to motivate me. Did I finish every UFO that I added to my list – nope, but it did inspire me to complete some, and it did spark that creativity again. So, for me, the goal is to keep moving forward and not get overwhelmed. Your goal of the game may be actually to complete those projects! I strive to be more like that!! Someday? Maybe?
What to do First
First, create a list of projects you want to finish. Second, label the projects with a number from 1-12. Finally, wait for me to draw a number at the beginning of January. That’s it! Well, it will also help if you gather all the needed supplies for each project – then there are no excuses for not completing them.
Give yourself a couple of backup projects. In my first year, I had WAY TOO MANY paper-piecing projects I wanted to complete. As you can guess, I got sick of working on them. Rather than give up, just make a substitution. Forward progress on any project is a plus.
Looking forward to seeing your results!!
