Welcome to Quilting With Tamara and the Quilt Block Library. You will find links to free quilt block patterns. The instructions are for one block and are easy enough for the beginner quilter. You will need to do the math to figure out how much fabric you need to make a quilt from that block. You can also mix and match your quilt blocks to create scrap quilts with various blocks. This page is a work in progress, so be patient as I create the blocks and get them listed. I will break down the process so a beginning quilter can tackle the blocks. Explore the free quilt block patterns found below.
Scrap Quilt Options
Many of the blocks below will work wonderfully for a scrap quilt. To start down the path of scrappy quilts, choose a block that you like. If you are unsure of how to start creating scrap quilts, just start with the one block. To help with the cohesiveness of the quilt, keep the background fabrics in the same value – light or dark. Then, decide how many color families you want in the quilt. The next part is to just have fun with it!
As you become more confident in creating scrap quilts, it is a great way to use the leftover fabrics from other projects. Free quilt block patterns also give you an opportunity to see how a quilt designer writes the patterns. Some styles may work better for you than others. If there is a block pattern you would like broken down into simple steps, send me a message. It is a part of designing that I enjoy; taking a complicated block and simplifying it.
Creative Inspiration
Sometimes, we need some inspiration. I find it by looking at quilt fabric, quilts, and even quilt blocks. Sometimes, I only want to do a small project or test out a technique and try a different color combination. I love being able to find quilt block instructions easily. I will know where to find them quickly rather than scrolling through my hard drives by adding my instructions here. Download the directions for the quilt blocks or print them directly from this page.
The Quilt Block Library is a Work in Progress
This page will continue to change as I add more blocks to my site. Stop back often to see what is new. Also, sign up with my Facebook group to see the updates.
Contact me if you have a block request. I will do my best to add it to my page. It will take me time to write the directions as well as test the pattern. But the challenge is something I enjoy. I love to see your blocks and your quilts – even your fabric choices and color combinations. It is so inspiring to me. Please share.
