Welcome to Quilting With Tamara. The Criss-Cross Star Quilt Block is a combination of a Single Irish Chain (or Cross-Country Block) and the Variable Star. Color placement within the block plays a big part in the overall quilt. A secondary pattern will emerge because of the chains. Sashings and cornerstones will enhance the pattern.
Criss-Cross Star Quilt Block- Quilt Block Research
I found several other blocks with this name in my research, but I couldn’t find this particular block. The Criss-Cross Star block is a perfect quilt block for going scrappy.
Star Quilt Blocks – Criss Cross
This star quilt block is the combination of two simple blocks that build on beginner skills. The results can look more intricate depending on fabric choices and layout. A Scrappy quilt comes to mind when I see this block pattern. You can do each block independently and then put them together. Take a step back to make sure you have color and value balance with the quilt top.
Variations
When working on this pattern, you can swap out the SIAS (Square in a Square) center block for a large print or fussy-cut novelty fabric. So many options, so little time. Share your creative block design! Please send me a picture of the fabrics you chose to use.

Due to some issues with embedding the pdf file for the quilt block direction, I have switched to the link instead. It should open on a new page. From that page, you can download or print the pattern. Please let me know if you have any issues with it. You can send me a message through my contact page or Facebook Messages.
