Maple Star Variation Block

Welcome to Quilting With Tamara! The Maple Star Variation Block is a beautiful block to use for a quilt. Play around with the colors – add more! Use large scale print for the inside of the SIAS (Square in a Square) block. Maple Star Variation is a one-block commitment. It provides the opportunity to play with colors and design without the pressure of a full-size quilt. Convert the Maple Star Variation Quilt Block into a pillow or table-topper. Create three quilt blocks, and you have a table runner – add borders.

Star blocks are one of the most popular quilt blocks. I can say that it is true in my case. In the pattern creation process, I love to find inspiration from the star blocks. The variation part comes from using a SIAS (Square in a Square) block in the center. Delete the SIAS, and you have the Maple Star Quilt Block. Add a 9-Patch in the center and capitalize on the ability to create a secondary pattern.

Variations

Add sashings and cornerstones to your block to continue to change and enhance this block. OR, go scrappy with it! Separate the fabrics into light, medium, and dark fabrics and go wild with different color combinations. Use one fabric for the sashing to really highlight the scrappy blocks. Create a Friendship or Photo quilt. The center area would work for photos and the rectangles for phrases or signatures. Fussy cut Novelty Prints for the center square. The options are almost endless.

Due to some issues with embedding the pdf file for the quilt block direction, I have switched to the link instead. It should open on a new page. From that page, you can download or print the pattern. Please let me know if you have any issues with it. You can send me a message through my contact page or Facebook Messages.
