Star in a Star Quilt Block Pattern
This quilt block has so many variations depending on the colors used. You could make it simpler by using squares in the four corners and in the center. Simplifying the block further by making the Flying Geese units all the same, utilizing the background. Your quilt block could essentially become a two-color quilt. This free quilt block pattern can be found on the Quilt Block Library page. There is also a download link listed below.
If you are leaning a bit scrappy, mix it all up. Separate your fabrics into values – light, medium, and dark. Keep the same colors within those values the same within the block. If you are really feeling scrappy, base the fabric choices solely on value with little regard to colors.
Variation Suggestions
If you choose to go with a plan center, this would create the perfect opportunity to use a larger-scale print. The center is 4″ finished. I can picture a large floral center with the Flying Geese “points” highlights with a color from the floral print.
Another option, utilize the same color points across the whole quilt but change up the center square. So many options and so little time to play.
Due to some issues with embedding the pdf file for the quilt block direction, I have switched to the link instead. It should open on a new page. From that page, you can download or print the pattern. Please let me know if you have any issues with it. You can send me a message through my contact page or Facebook Messages.
