Project Quilt UFO update for January
Now that life seems to be settling down after the holidays and the lovely flu that kept us down for a couple of weeks has finally cleared out of our house, I can focus on the projects I want to work on this month. Have you had a chance to decide what quilt UFO you want to work on this month? I know some of you are adding to your projects by joining the Row by Row Sampler. I can justify that one by saying that I used all scrappy colors from my stash. 🙂
Quilt UFO Projects

I shared that I am working on a couple of long-term projects that I NEED to finish. I love the look of foundation-piecing projects, but it can be tedious. Did I start on those first this month? Nope, I started with creating 9-Patches for Jack’s Chain. The 9-Patches are almost mindless piecing and a good way to ease back into quilting since being sick. My energy level greatly suffered from this flu bug. The pile on the left is what I had at the beginning of the month. The pile of 9-Patches on the right is what I was able to put together this month.
Foundation Piecing

It is funny that this month, I have pushed aside the projects I enjoy the least. I do have a day set aside this weekend to work on the foundation piecing projects. I have a couple of hours either on Saturday or Sunday to sit down and get them started. Usually, once I get started, I accomplish more than I think I will.
Dividing the foundation-piecing ahead of time takes the pressure off the process. Each month, I only have to look at one baggie. All the needed fabric is in the baggie, too. I can’t wait until the end of the month, and I have January’s foundation piecing all done.

Quilt UFO – Machine Quilting
I have the quilt all loaded, the bobbins are wound, and it is just waiting for me to spend some time quilting the rows. This is a lap-size quilt that is completely scrappy. You can find the pattern here – it’s called Scrappy 4-Patch Stars. I used more pastel colors along with scrappy tone-on-tones for the background. It will be nice to finish another quilt!
I have a habit of putting off the machine quilting, and I have no idea! It truly doesn’t take me that long, especially since I don’t do any fancy quilting. Maybe that will come once I am caught up with all the projects, but for now I am happy with just meandering along.
Just a thought – if you prefer dark backgrounds, this pattern can easily be adjusted. A black background would make the scrappy fabrics pop! It is what I like about some of the Amish quilts – the fabrics pop. I would love to see it in reproduction prints too.
Until next time.
