Quilt UFOs 2024 – First Steps
We’ve been talking about Quilt UFOs for a couple of years now. Progress is being made! I have completed a good number of projects. Don’t let that fool you there is still a very large pile of quilts that need to be quilted and then to complete the bindings. This list will only increase as I finish up the partially completed projects.
Most of the quilts in that pile are larger quilts, so they add time and effort to my machine quilting. Because my quilting table isn’t very long, I only have about three feet in each row. I keep reminding myself that it is so much easier than using my regular machine. My arms and shoulders can’t handle that kind of tugging.
Quilt UFOs – the list.
My list looks very different this year. Partly because I have a couple of projects that have been on my completion list for more than a decade. It is time to finish them and enjoy them. Of course, there is another change since the time I printed out my list – Grandson decided he wanted the quilt that is listed for machine quilting! Now I need to add another quilt to the list, probably the one I have earmarked for his sister: Scrappy 4-Patch Stars.

Time for us to Get Started
Since I needed a break from all the holiday preparations, I took a few minutes and got my January projects all set to go. Pulling eight or nine foundation piecing sections from both of the projects (Mariner’s Star & 4th of July) will set me up for success on this long overdue UFO. I loaded the quilt on the machine that needs to be quilted in January; I also created about 30 sets of 9-Patches for Jack’s Chain.
You can see in the picture that I have a huge pile of 9-patch parts. It is time to put them together. It is definitely a mess, but it is all the easier to randomly pull the parts that I need without too much thought.
Jack’s Chain
Jack’s Chain will be a beautiful quilt once it is complete. The colors are muted and I like what I am seeing so far. The goal of adding it to my Quilt UFOs List is to keep me focused on it at least a few times each month.
Each month I will share what I have accomplished on my Quilt UFOs list. If I am lucky, during the winter, I will have more time to be productive.
Last year, I completed my projects, but trying to fit everything in during the summer months stressed me out. This year, I will fit in some extras to help offset the busier months. Wouldn’t it be great to finish those foundation piecing projects early? One can only hope.
Until next time.
