Looking for Quilting Inspiration in this Autumn Adventure
Off on another adventure, probably the last of the season with the coach. I finished September’s UFO, binding and all. October’s UFO was added to the quilting machine. I will be furiously quilting when I get home to finish that one by the end of the month. But, for the days we are away, we are focusing on some outside adventures – biking, hiking, and just not thinking about work. The outdoor Autumn Adventure always feeds my quilting inspiration. I have a hand quilting project with me, so I have something to do when hubby falls asleep in front of the TV.
Time to Relax, Time to Look for Quilting Inspiration
The last six weeks have been crazy busy, and we want to relax and not think about everything that needs to be done. It is time to recharge and refresh with our little Autumn Adventure. The fall colors in Pennsylvania are beautiful, even with the misty rain today. West Virginia also gifted us with some bright yellow, burgundy, and orange leaves amongst the green.
What a great time to be traveling. We had spots of vibrant color back home, but the trees were already becoming bare. The hints of what’s coming next are there, but I choose to ignore them for as long as possible.
Reflection
It is time to focus on some projects for this winter. To ask myself what I want to accomplish in the coming year. I like that my projects are dwindling, but the stack of quilts that need to be quilted has grown. There is so much I want to do but so little quilting time. I hope to squeeze in a quilting weekend with a friend over the next few weeks.
Sparks of Color Leads to Quilting Inspiration
Every so often, that bright color tree among the subdued tones would catch my eye and make me smile. Today is all about finding those bright spots among the dreary, wet drive. I could be hand quilting right now, but appreciating the autumn splendor is a bit more enjoyable. With each mile we go, the stress and tension are falling off. We are singing, often off-key, but smiling and laughing as we continue to make memories.
Feeding my Creativity
That bright spot of color in the trees brings sparkle like the accent color often does in a quilt. It is that little bit of spark that brings life, interest, and texture to a quilt. Not that monochromatic quilts are dull – they usually bring spark through the variety of prints used. Taking this time to refresh my creativity makes me excited about what is next!
A couple of tours we’ve done had old-fashioned quilts on the beds. Hubby quizzed me on the quilt names. A few of them were truly scrap quilts with random-sized blocks. The ingenuity of the women to make do with what they had and create a utilitarian quilt that was still pretty to look at.
Ideas for Things to Come
The autumnal colors spark my creativity, but I am not ready to put pen to paper. This is the time to let the ideas perk for a while until a more solid plan happens. Does anyone else wake up in the middle of the night with an idea of something to create?
Do you need some ideas, take a look through the website. If you want ideas on a scrappy quilt, check out this page. You will find patterns for creating a scrappy quilt. Are you looking to create a sampler quilt? Check out this page – you will find patterns for 12″ pieced blocks. In January, I will be starting a Row by Row Sampler quilt. Until next time.
