Quilts in Review 2022

A Review of Completed Quilts.

Looking back at the quilts of 2022, I realize how many projects I completed. However, the process started slowly and not without hiccups. A Quilts in Review post was needed to celebrate the successes.

Quilts in Review – New Projects

2022 Quilt Project – Mystery

I continued to add projects in 2022: a mystery quilt and a block of the month added in the early months of the year—both of these projects fed my creative side. I can spend months in the designing stage – there is just something about watching the project come to life.

Of course, I didn’t choose small projects to add. The Mystery Quilt ended up being a large king-size quilt. We have a split king adjustable bed; average-size king quilts didn’t hang long enough on the sides. This quilt filled the need.

Quilts in Review - My 2022 Block of the Month
My 2022 Block of the Month

The Block of the Month helped to keep me busy over the long winter months. Although I love the emerging secondary patterns, it wasn’t an easy project.

This month, I finished the machine quilting of the BOM. I will add the binding to my Quilt UFO Buster list. That is unless I get that spurt of binding completion energy that hits every so often.

Scrappy Projects

In the fall, I added three more scrappy projects, resulting in ideas for the blog in the new year. In the hopes of decreasing my scrappy leftovers, I am focusing on patterns that showcase the fabrics. Even though they were added to my project list, the creativity will be felt throughout the coming year.

Quilts In Review – Finished Projects for 2022

Some of the first projects finished in 2022 were miniature landscapes. They motivated me to organize the projects and complete the easy ones first. It is great when something so simple can get the ball rolling.

These landscape quilts can be as detailed or simplified as you like. I think that was what I enjoyed about them the most – the fabrics tell the story.

Quilts in Review Holiday

I was on a roll. Next, an old-fashioned Santa needed very little to finish it up. I had a couple of areas on the quilt that benefited from the decorative stitches. It may still need a bell added to the tip of the hat, but I haven’t decided yet. He will become part of my holiday decor this year.

Quilts in Review – Quilting Machine

The quilting machine was a game changer. Struggling with machine quilting projects in my small machine didn’t help my neck, shoulders, and upper back. The quilting machine saved me.

I finished machine quilting 12 projects over the summer and fall months. I added the binding to nine of them. The others are in my basket next to my recliner. I work on them a little bit every evening. It won’t take long, and I will have the rest finished, although I plan on adding to that basket almost as quickly as I finish.

I have a couple of bed-sized bindings to complete; I am saving them for that wintery and cold day.

Here is a quick pictorial review of the projects I completed in 2022. This is the most productive I have been in a few years. It is amazing what happens when you feel good.

I am looking forward to seeing what 2023 holds for my creativity.
