Final Installment of the Row by Row Sampler
We are at the end of this year-long project. This is the second Row by Row Sampler I’ve made, and I still love the pattern. I don’t usually repeat quilt patterns, but scrappy quilts always tug at my heartstrings. This step took the longest because it is a pieced border. My little Buster loves to sit right behind my machine and sleep.
Border Options
In the first Row by Row Sampler I made, I kept the color family the same in each 4-patch. This time, I decided to mix it up. A bit of the pattern is lost because I have a busier dark fabric, but I can live with it.
The photo shows just three blocks laid together. I still need to sew the pieced border together. I have definitely been a slacker in 2024. This will be the first year in quite a few years that I have not accomplished my quilty to-do list. I am pleased with the projects I completed.
The photo to the right is my first Row by Row Sampler. The fabric is printed, but it reads as a solid. The second one I am completing has a dark that is definitely a print. It provides two slightly different looks and I don’t know which one I like better.
The pieced border stands out better on the first one, but I love the texture on the second one.
Time to Finish the Row by Row Sampler
It is time to decide how you are putting your Row by Row Sampler together. If you choose a different layout, you may have to adjust your pieced border. This pattern is designed for a dark sashing strip in between the rows, but don’t let that drive your creativity. The pieced border can be adjusted if you decide to do something different.
This photo is from earlier in the fall. Right now, my deck has about 30 inches of snow. The last couple of days of snow have allowed me to work on projects. Last winter and the one before, we had very little snow. I guess we are due for a very snowy winter this year.
Last Installment
The last installment of the Row by Row Sampler can be found here. If you haven’t started or completed the pattern, make sure you print off all the steps. It will be available for purchase in the new year. Feel free to share your results; I would love to see your creativity!
Coming Soon
There is a Mystery Quilt coming in the new year. I am finishing up with my sample. Then, I need to double and triple-check the fabric requirements. I can share that this quilt will have four fabrics. The fun part will be seeing your choices!
