The October Installment of the Row by Row Sampler
As we enter the last quarter of the year, it is time to step back and check our progress on the Row by Row Sampler. This month, I will not put the blocks into rows. After completing next month’s blocks, I will decide whether I will make two mixed rows or not. I like Friendship Stars, but when you mix them with next month’s block, they seem to “sparkle” more.
Scrappy Fabrics
This entire project has been a labor of love with the scrap fabrics. Within the Friendship Stars, I also went scrappy. It is another way to provide movement within the block and across the quilt. My scrap basket has been helpful, but it continues to grow.
Half Square Triangles
This month, the Half-Square Triangles (HST) are the hardest unit, and even those aren’t so hard. I teach this unit by making them oversized and then trimming them down to the correct size. Feel free to use the best method for you; there are so many options.
The HST is a handy block for scrap quilts. If I were going to do a large number of them, I would look for a more efficient method. Accuracy would be important no matter what method I chose.
We had 48 HSTs to trim down. It’s time for some work in front of the TV. It is amazing how quickly it goes when you have something else to focus on.
Row by Row Sampler – Friendship Stars
It is time to decide if you want a row of just Friendship Stars or to mix them with next month’s block. I can’t wait to see what you decide to do! The link to this month’s pattern can be found here. Scroll down to find the link for October.
