Row by Row Sampler – September

September installment of the Row by Row Sampler

As I look out the window and see that the leaves are already starting to turn here, I realize I am not ready for winter this year. This will be a busy month; actually, it will be a few busy months for me. We are winding down on the Row by Row Sampler. It is exciting to see the results. This month, we are working on Flying Geese. There are multiple ways to do Flying Geese; I will provide the directions for one format but don’t feel that you have to do it the way I teach.

Scrappy Flying Geese

This is a quick and easy block with many options for layout. I went completely scrappy with mine. In the picture above, my granddaughter (18 months) was “helping.” She kept running up and down the row like it was a road, so ultimately, the left side flipped up.

It is always a bit more time-consuming when you have such a curious helper. I had an old cellphone to hand her so she could also take pictures.

I am looking forward to quilting this one. I have a variegated thread that I am going to use. It will pick up all the colors of the blocks. I could also go with a neutral thread color, but I love using those variegated threads on scrappy quilts.

You can find this month’s directions here; just scroll down the page to click on the September link. With just a few more installments, you will have all the parts you need for this quilt.

Until next time.
