Saturday/Sunday Sew Day

Sew day? No, Sew Weekend!

Sunday Sew Day Quilt UFOs HSTs

This weekend has been a combination of sewing and spring cleaning, even though we have a lot of time before the warm spring weather. I spent some time with the grandkids this week, and, of course, they both came down with colds. So, I’ve been doing some deep cleaning to clear out any lingering germs. It’s that time of year when the little ones share, and I really don’t want to catch what they’ve got! Here’s how my sew day has unfolded, with some quilting sprinkled in: machine quilting, tackling a quilt UFO, and experimenting with new quilt block designs.

Sewing Time

Machine QuiltingWhats on the machineSew Day

In the sewing department, I finally got my machine quilting done on a project I started back in the fall. It felt so good to get a new quilt back on the machine. This quilt, Scrappy X’s & O’s, will soon join the pile of quilts needing bindings. I even went ahead and made the binding, so it’s all ready to go when I have a free moment. You can find the pattern for this free scrappy quilt here.

Delectable MountainsSew Day

It’s perfect for using up scraps, and I’m thinking of trying it with a lighter background next. It’s a quick and fun pattern, ideal for your next sew day.

Next up in my quilt UFO pile is a Delectable Mountain quilt. I really need to get this one finished and snuggled up on my couch. Bear, of course, is already testing it out! He’s not going to be happy when I have to shoo him off the quilt to finish it up.

Sew Day – Quilt UFO Slips

Finishing the machine quilting means I get to pull another slip. Most of my slips this year focus on machine quilting and binding, but a couple of other projects are thrown in there. Each time I finish a machine quilting or binding, I add another slip with the same thing on it. I shake up the jar, but the odds are I will get either machine quilting or binding.

So here is what I am working on next: Machine Quilting! Looks like the Delectable Mountain quilt will be one step closer to being finished.

This has been a productive month so far (thanks to a few Sew Days), but I know that won’t happen once the weather changes. Here are my slips so far. 1) Row X Row Border, 2) Frosty Winter Border, 3) Machine Quilting, 4) Binding and the current one, 5) Machine Quilting.

Quilt Blocks – Playing with Ideas

When I need a little break from quilting, I love playing around with quilt block designs. I’m currently leaning toward a scrappy quilt but with specific color families in mind. Once I finalize my ideas, I’ll share them here! Now, I am back to working on the next installment of Mystery Quilt 2025.
