Free Scrap Quilt Pattern

Welcome to this month’s Free Scrap Quilt Pattern – X’s & O’s. This pattern is perfect for pulling from your scrap bin. The block is simple and can be sewn from leftovers you have from whatever project you just completed. You need 2 1/2″ squares and 4 1/2″ squares.

This pattern looks deceivingly simple, but the result, the sparkle happens when you put all the blocks together.

Cutting Directions

You can find general block directions here.

This block can be adjusted easily for different sizes. See the chart below. You only need two different size squares. My quilt was created with the 4″ blocks. It gave me movement across the pattern without being too tedious.

Scrappy Quilt Design and LayOut

Play around with the layout once you decide what size blocks you want to use. Depending on how you lay out your blocks determines what the pattern looks like. My layout to the left creates “Xs” and Os,” but if you turn the blocks in the same direction, it creates a skewed 6-point star.

There are other options, so take your time and play around with the designs. If you decide to utilize dark and medium colors for the scrappy fabrics, that will open up even more options.

Contact me via Facebook or email if you have a scrappy block request. I will do my best to add it to my page. It will take me time to write the directions and test the pattern. But the challenge is something I enjoy. I love seeing your blocks and quilts – even your fabric choices and color combinations. It is so inspiring to me. Please share. Check-in with the Facebook Page.

Until Next Time…
