Scrappy Jewel Box

This is one of my favorite Scrap Patterns and a freebie! This pattern has three sizes: Lap Size, Twin Size, and King/Queen Size. I first introduced the pattern during a Quilt Retreat. This is back on my list to create more utilizing a natural muslin. I love the results another quilter had! The Scrappy Jewel Box may be one of those continuous scrap patterns.

Start Collecting

Once you see the size units you need, it is just a matter of collecting the scraps. I still have plenty of scraps in my bin, so I will spend a little time cutting things out over the next few months.

Scrappy Jewel Box – Color Choices

First, decide what color background. Don’t limit yourself to just dark or light. Depending on your scrap colors – you can choose other colors and prints. Secondly, start gathering your scrappy fabrics that coordinate with your background.

With this pattern, I can picture it done in several different ways. I looked to see what I have for the background and found a beautiful print. Since I have many hand-dyed fabrics, I will pair them with the print.

So many options and so little time. I start with the background first because it requires more yardage. I have more than enough scrappy fabrics to support this pattern.

Share your Scrappy Jewel Box quilt so we can see your color combinations.

You can find the Scrappy Jewel Box pattern on the scrap quilt page. If you haven’t followed each month’s post, several other patterns are listed on that page.

What I like about this scrap quilt:

  • It goes together very quickly.
  • There are so many fabric options for this quilt.
  • The more variety of fabrics (color and texture), the better the results.
  • There is no right or wrong way to do this pattern.

I would love to see what you are working on this month. Feel free to comment below or share on my Facebook page.

Until next time.
